I visited an African Pastor at his church in an industrial town in Essen, where we had lovely and hot discussions covering topics from how Africans are strugglying in the Diaspora to how evil some of us can be! He made a comment which has since occupied my mind.
Well his comment was: “We Africans we can only celebrate our heros when they are dead!”
Now I need your help here Africans on the Blog, do you know of any heors alive that we have celebrated? I can only think of Wangare Maathai who got a Nobel Peace Price.
In the African Continent have we given anybody an award for their achievements in which ever role? And if not, is there any particular reason?
Anyway Ms Joy Zenz the founder and owner of African Women in Europe Network (AWE) has decided to break the rules and to offer awards to women covering different classes from best Business Enterpreneur to best organisation promoting community development projects in the Diaspora.
I just want to support Joy as I know how hard she works in promoting and encouraging African Women in the Diaspora to take advantage of offers being offered by the mainstream, to get them to take courage to fulfill their dreams. She is a Mompreneuer joggling between business and family. Her idea of rewarding women is a nobel one, but yet so very important and in giving each one of us the opportunity to pet ourselves on the shoulder for the hard work which we have done. AWE is waiting for us ladies to join and help celebrate our heros here and today!
