I’m from Somalia but have never been to my homeland due to the ongoing civil war and conflict. I was born and partly raised in Doha Qatar, a tiny Arab gulf nation in the Middle East, as well as Arlington Virginia in the USA. I have been going back and forth between these two locations for most of my life which is very characteristic of nomadic Somalis who are relentlessly adrift trying to find home. Graduating with an international politics degree I have always taken an interest in how individuals, communities, societies, and nations function and interact for the betterment of humanity. I’m a big advocate of postcolonial theory as I find it explains many of our local/global challenges and relationships today. I hope to one day see a thriving, independent and self-loving Somalia and Africa.
