This is going to be a really short post so be warned! Following a discussion I had with a Nigerian born successful business Woman a few weeks back whose government has not acknowledged this success at all despite worldwide acclaim. I have been thinking of how Western Governments spend time showcasing their businesses and whether African ones do at all. So far I have not found anyone who can tell me how their governments showcase their successful African businesses around the world.
If anyone has experience of this then please let me know with examples if possible. We are always talking about how people can help by going back etc but maybe the government also have to start being proud of what we are achieving all over. I know for a fact my country will not even have a database of it’s succesful businesspeople around the world. I know all will not be captured but I know the effort to do that has not even commenced. We talk about a brain and skill drain, maybe it is time we started to find who and where these skilled people are and form a relationship with them even if they are not in Africa. Our embassies have a huge role they can play here. It should be a remit for them to collect such information. This may eventually entice rather than shouting all the time that people should go back home. I bet foreign businesses are noticed though!
Yes I know, it is not that short! Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
p.s Is anybody out there willing to help me lobby for this? As that is exactly what I intend to do.
