Two years ago the Spanish PM Rajoy kick started a social media storm when he said
As I wrote at the time, the Spanish PM’s text message was to put it mildly patronizing – something right out of the 19th Century Royal Geographical sentiments. Well two years on it would appear that Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has returned the favour.
Museveni has argued that Uganda is a better tourist destination than Spain and has urged the tourist board in that country to be more proactive in the promotion of the country and all it has to offer to potential holiday makers.
Museveni’s comments have led to yet another debate and comparison between Spain and Uganda and revived the hashtags #SPAINISNOTUGANDA and #UGANDAISNOTSPAIN
I have followed the debate and read some of the comments on The Guardian’s poll on this matter. Some think that, this is like comparing pears and apples, both are good fruits but for completely different reasons.
Spain has got great architecture, festivals, wine whilst Uganda has lakes and mountains including snow capped Rwenzori (Mountains of the moon), rare species such as tree climbing lions and mountain gorillas, more than 100o species of birds to mention but a few. Consequently some people will love holidays in both countries because they offer different things whilst some will have a definitive preference.
Please let me know which country you would prefer to holiday in by making a selection below.
